The Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) – RMI Data & Insights

The Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) was designed to educate, inform, engage and influence the wider construction market and beyond.

It aims to provide the facts and explain them to all, but especially decision makers and government who have previously overlooked the builders’ merchant sector and failed to recognise its importance to the UK economy.

As the only reliable and up-to-date measure of housing RMI activity, BMBI reports on more than 80% of material sales by general builders’ merchants to the trade. This data is combined with expert comments explaining the trends and their significance.

MRA conceived the BMBI, and now produces the reports and distributes them to decision-makers, advisors and influencers, economists, business analysts and commentators, national media and government as a brand of the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF).

BMBI is promoted via an integrated marketing programme including press releases, blogs and articles, social media, monthly emails, the bmbi.co.uk website and an annual round table debate where key issues are discussed by leading industry experts. It is also syndicated to eight trade magazines, generating a combined circulation of 82,000 plus a further 216,000 readers online. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy also includes BMBI in its monthly construction update.

Analytics suggest the website is visited by the Treasury and the Cabinet Office showing that BMBI, as planned, reaches into the heart of government.
